A Woman’s Brew Podcast follows the ‘beer-ventures’ of two beer-loving women – Joanne Love & Tori Powell – on their mission to get more people drinking and talking about great craft beers. The duo look to infuse equal parts education, playfulness, and story-telling with a dash of chaos across their episodes with the aim to make the craft beer hobby more fun and approachable for all – made by women for everyone! Tori and Joanne are both UK based, but weave in their US connections with their love of travel to bring you – dear listeners – stories from across the industry and across the globe. Back in episode 67 we talked you through barley wines. These strong ales were brewed to be stored and aged and modern brewers are doing interesting things with them. This week we take a look at NOT barley wines!
Close relative to the barley wine is the wheat, oat and rye wine and we sample an example of each. How do the different grains change this beer style? Why would brewers use these alternative grains and which do we like best?

In the next episode of our UK Brave Noise round up we chat to Vendy from Vault City about their Brave Noise brew. In true Vault City fashion they brewed a twist on the recipe creating a pineapple sour pale. It stays true to both the brewery and Brave Noise while still being refreshing, accessible and making a noise for awareness – exactly what we need!
Vendy talks about her experience of brewing the beer and her time at Vault City who are an excellent example of how breweries can get involved with Brave Noise.

We bring to you dessert beers! These are not for the ‘beer should taste like beer’ crowd as they definitely taste of other things. We compare Yonder & Vault City’s carrot cake sours and try them against actual carrot cake. Then we continue with Vault and try their collaboration beers with S43 – white chocolate raspberry cheesecake sour and cherry cheesecake imperial stout – but does it actually taste like the cheesecakes on our plates?

We’re making a Brave Noise again! In episode 3 of our Brave Noise roundup, we chat with James and Helen from Wilderness Brewery. Not only are they a wild fermentation brewery from Wales, but also for a long while Wilderness was just James. They may be small but they are mighty!
We have an excellent conversation about how men may feel that Brave Noise isn’t for them or they can’t take part in the initiative. But Brave Noise and equality is for everyone, just like beer is for everyone!

There is definitely something in the water – probably because beer is 90% water! It’s a fairly important ingredient when it comes to brewing our favourite beverage but it’s also quite a complicated subject. In this episode we look at water profiles around the world that have shaped some of the beer styles you love today. We’re talking IPA, Gose and Czech Pilsner. We also taste a beer made in two different places to see if the water is really that important (spoiler – it is!)
