A Woman’s Brew Podcast follows the ‘beer-ventures’ of two beer-loving women – Joanne Love & Tori Powell – on their mission to get more people drinking and talking about great craft beers. The duo look to infuse equal parts education, playfulness, and story-telling with a dash of chaos across their episodes with the aim to make the craft beer hobby more fun and approachable for all – made by women for everyone! Tori and Joanne are both UK based, but weave in their US connections with their love of travel to bring you – dear listeners – stories from across the industry and across the globe. Happy Birthday to Top Rope – 5 years young! We can honestly say that A Woman’s Brew: The Podcast wouldn’t exist without Top Rope and their Cold Stone Cream Austin range, which we featured in one of our first ever episodes. (we looked at Ice Cream Pale Ales in episode 003, which you can listen to here: https://awomansbrew.sounder.fm/episode/icecreampaleales)
If you don’t know, Top Rope loves wrestling, and their co-founder Neil has some very deep knowledge about the subject. We find out how they come up with their beer names (spoiler – it’s to do with wrestling but often it’s not as obvious as you would think) and how they managed to get Frank Turner to do a gig at the brewery.
A massive thank you to Neil for coming on and we will definitely be stopping by the tap room when we get up to Liverpool!

We brewed a beer! And our wonderful friend Rachel at Heist Brew Co made it all possible. We were honoured to be asked to brew with Heist and to have the opportunity to develop the beer from recipe creation right through to naming and art work! Together we created a very drinkable peanut butter and jelly porter (using Jo’s base porter recipe!) called When The Beer Is So Lit You Turn Into A Bagel!
We also chat to Rachel about the life of a brewer – congrats Rachel for just getting a full time position on the brew team at Heist. We chat about her journey into brewing, so if you are thinking of this path give us a listen to see how Rachel did it.

Then with Time At The Bar Pod’s expert research skills we look at women in relation to Oktoberfest. Why is the dirndl the recognised dress at the festival? What is it like to be a waitress in the tents? And how has Oktoberfest been leading the way with festival safety? Oh! And can you guess the now traditional song played at the end of the festival? You are never going to get it!
