A Woman’s Brew

A Woman’s Brew Podcast follows the ‘beer-ventures’ of two beer-loving women – Joanne Love & Tori Powell – on their mission to get more people drinking and talking about great craft beers. The duo look to infuse equal parts education, playfulness, and story-telling with a dash of chaos across their episodes with the aim to make the craft beer hobby more fun and approachable for all – made by women for everyone! Tori and Joanne are both UK based, but weave in their US connections with their love of travel to bring you – dear listeners – stories from across the industry and across the globe. They hope that you’ll grab a drink of your choosing and join them for a round or few – CHEERS!

048 - Mead!

Monday Aug 09, 2021

Monday Aug 09, 2021

Welcome to A Woman’s Brew, where women talk about beer!
What is mead and what makes it interesting? We decided to look at
something a bit different in this episode, inspired by our interesting
conversations about honey with Wild Weather in episode 25. Mead is a fermented beverage like beer but is made from honey. We taste test Gosnell’s
of London’s 4 session meads to see what we think. Tori and Jo also regale you with stories of family history and school days – all related to honey and mead we promise!
Come find us on Instagram to let us know if you’ve tried mead and what you thought!
You can buy mead from Gosnell’s on their webshop here:
https://www.gosnells.co.uk/
And check out that conversation about honey with Wild Weather
in Episode 25 here.

047 - Smoked Beer

Monday Aug 02, 2021

Monday Aug 02, 2021

Welcome to A Woman’s Brew, where women talk about beer!
Sometimes called a bottle of liquid bacon, smoked beers can be an acquired taste. Jo loves a smoked beer, Tori wasn’t so sure (it was the oyster stout all over again!) We introduce you to THE smoked beer from Schlenkerla in Bamberg, then walk you through the history of smoked beers and offer up a couple of craft options. Don’t be scared of the smoke! You might find something new and delicious!
To read more about the history of smoked beers, check out Schlenkerla’s
website here:

046 - Hopfenweisse

Monday Jul 26, 2021

Monday Jul 26, 2021

Welcome to A Woman’s Brew, where women talk about beer!
Have you heard of a Hopfenweisse? This is a relatively new style in the grand scheme of beer. A combination of the banana esters and clove phenols of a wheat beer and the fruity, bitter notes of hops. Tori and Jo were inspired to produce this episode after they got a can of Nacken by Siren Brew Co. Luckily, they managed to grab the original Hopfenweisse from Schneider Weisse to compare it to.
Jo shares the interesting evolution of this style with you, while Tori tells the tale of how Nacken came to be through Swedish homebrew, naked sea gods and missing wheat!
Have you tried a Hopfenweisse and what did you think? Come find us on
Instagram to let us know!

Welcome to A Woman’s Brew, where women talk about beer!
This week we are honoured to have Jane from Mothership Beer with us in conversation. Mothership are a brewery that A Woman’s Brew: The Podcast holds in high regard – their ethos aligns with ours completely!
Jane tells us what it’s like to be a nano brewery, especially during a pandemic, where her beer ideas come from and why makers are gonna make!
We also talk about how the beer Text Me When Ur Home was influenced by the tragic events surrounding the death of Sarah Everard and the discussions that have followed. This is one of Mothership’s charity beers - check out Mothership Beer’s webshop or your local bottle shop to buy it. £10/keg and 10p per can is donated to Rosa (www.rosauk.org), a charity that helps to resource grassroots women’s and girls’ organisations across the UK.

Welcome to A Woman’s Brew, where women talk about beer!
How have we got to the middle of 2021 already?! At the beginning of the

Welcome to A Woman’s Brew, where women talk about beer!
Welcome to Conversations from the Taproom! When we were recording our episode for the Women On Tap festival (episode 40 – The Pub That Didn’t Exisit if you haven’t had chance to listen!) there were so many interesting (and off topic) conversations had, we couldn’t fit them all in. We wanted to share those with you today.
A big thanks to Louise from Women’s Pint Club and Charlotte from Phantom Brewing Co for joining us.
We talk about Tori’s first trip to an actual pub, neon signs, cask beer, online beer shops and were lucky enough to catch up with Andy from Three Hills again while at The Outpost.
We hope that you are getting out to your favourite pubs, bars and taprooms and getting to have excellent conversations just like these!
What’s your favourite topic of conversation to have over a pint? Let us know in the comments!

042 - Bigfoot Festival

Tuesday Jun 29, 2021

Tuesday Jun 29, 2021

Welcome to A Woman’s Brew, where women talk about beer!
We’ve finally been able to take the podcast on the road! This week we talk
you through our experiences at Bigfoot Festival in Warwickshire.
Tori went along as a volunteer for Full Circle Brewing Co and Jo brought along her friend Liz who doesn’t drink beer and doesn’t camp! Each of us shares
our unique perspective on how we felt before the festival, what it was like there and our top tips for anyone going to a beer festival in the future. Jo is particularly excited as she managed to find a beer that Liz liked!
We didn’t get to record as much at the event as we wanted to, mainly because we were having too much fun! But be prepared for our Saturday recording session – it was a bit loud!
Did you go to Bigfoot Festival? What was your best moment? Have we missed any beer festival tips? Let us know in the comments!
