This week, we're diving into the challenges and opportunities for women in the beer industry and community with the thought-provoking findings from The Gender Pint Gap: Revisited report by Dea Latis. Using the report as a starting point, we'll explore the ten challenges and nine opportunities it highlights, addressing critical aspects such as the need for gender-neutral marketing, inclusive spaces, and better representation in mainstream advertising. We'll share personal anecdotes and our thoughts on the opportunities outlined in the report, like promoting premium beer, emphasizing taste over price, and introducing low or no-alcohol options. Additionally, we'll touch on how these changes can cater to different age groups and demographics while creating education and career opportunities in the industry. We discuss the societal norms and constraints that influence women's attitudes toward beer, the physical and psychological impacts they face, and the necessity for businesses to make ground-level changes to support inclusivity. This is such an important piece of research and we give a huge thanks to Annabel Smith and Dea Latis for taking it on. You can read the report for yourself here:https://dealatisuk.wordpress.com/2024/05/23/thegenderpintgaprevisited/ Here is the article Tori found about women working in the beer industry:https://www.goodbeerhunting.com/blog/2021/5/19/buzz-kill-the-physical-psychological-and-financial-price-women-pay-for-working-in-beer And catch up on our episode with Dr J here:https://lovebeerlearning.co.uk/a-womans-brew-podcast/episode-075-a-conversation-with-dr-j-of-the-brewers-association Get in Touch:Email: awomansbrewpodcast@gmail.comWebsite: http://www.lovebeerlearning.co.ukInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/awomansbrew/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AWomansBrewTori: @adventures_in_hoptimismJoanne: @lovebeerlearningSupport us: https://ko-fi.com/awomansbrew Subscribe:· iTunes· Spotify· Google· Stitcher· TuneIn Watch:YouTube Music: Higher Up by Shane Ivers - https://www.silvermansound.com

Our lager series continues this week with the lesser known Dortmunder Export. We have examples from Lost & Grounded, Exhale and Culmination Brewing and take you through what you should expect from this classic style. We won't just stop with the tasting notes, though. We’ll also be your guides through the optimal glassware and serving temperatures to ensure you get the best out of each pour and possible food pairing options. We trace the historical roots of the DAB Brewery, unfolding its journey through the technological revolution of refrigeration in the late 19th century, its resilience post-World War II, and its eventual mergers with prominent brewing groups. We'll delve into how Dortmunder Export became a significant component of German beer sales and the intriguing sulfuric notes that define this beer style. As is our way, we take a few detours during this episode – look out for talk about Bristol, St Patricks Day and international supermarkets! How do you feel about beer flights? Here at A Woman’s Brew both Tori and Jo are big advocates for beer flights - both for beer choices, pour size and beer education. But there is a debate going on as to whether a beer flight works for breweries and taprooms – does it slow down service? Not give the best representation of the beer? Or maybe there isn’t enough space for glass storage? We look through two articles and decide if we agree with the opinions, of if we are still pro-flight. What are your thoughts on beer flights? Are you for or against? Check out the articles here: Article one from Inside Hook:https://www.insidehook.com/beer/why-breweries-saying-no-beer-flights Article two from Punch Drink:https://punchdrink.com/articles/craft-beer-flights-debate/ And here is the image of the Russian River flight:https://www.reddit.com/r/CraftBeer/comments/11hpz0j/joined_this_sub_to_let_you_know_that_russian/ Get in Touch:Email: awomansbrewpodcast@gmail.comWebsite: http://www.lovebeerlearning.co.ukInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/awomansbrew/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AWomansBrewTori: @adventures_in_hoptimismJoanne: @lovebeerlearningSupport us: https://ko-fi.com/awomansbrew Subscribe:· iTunes· Spotify· Google· Stitcher· TuneIn Watch:YouTube Music: Higher Up by Shane Ivers - https://www.silvermansound.com
